Maruha Nichiro Holdings, Inc. (Public, TYO:1334) is a Japan-based holding company principally engaged in the marine product business.
The Company operates in four business segments.
FISHING
The Gills of Our Enterprise
Maruha Nichiro fisheries have a history that goes back over 100 years. Fisheries—the soul and origin of our business—have taught us to respect our livelihood: the ocean and the sea. At the same time, we deliver traceable, wholesome, and delicious seafood products. From resource conservation to technological innovation in longline and net fishing, it’s our duty to make fishing more sustainable and drive positive change, in line MSC standards. It’s also good business practice.
FISH FARMING
Expanding fish farming, safe capture
We want fisheries everywhere to expand their fish farming businesses and commit to safe capture so we can all enjoy a more sustainable planet. Certifications—like our recently-acquired ASC certificate, given to businesses that responsibly source farmed marine products—are a step in the right direction. But we need to do more. Which is why we develop farming technologies that protect natural marine resources and have one of the world’s first egg-to-harvest-raised bluefin tuna farms.
FOOD PROCESSING
Beyond Delicious
Our frozen and processed foods can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere: breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even the occasional midnight snack. Our bestsellers, such as fish sausage and canned salmon, run the gamut of delicious seafood and fresh foods. But we pride ourselves on doing more. So we develop new products that respond to the needs of society: nursing care food, pet foods, supplements, and space food that all come from sustainable sources. And we’re always innovating with advanced freezing technology that seals in freshness for longer periods of time.
The Marine Product segment encompasses the catching, farming, purchase, processing and the sale of fish.
The Food Product segment manufactures and sells canned foods, frozen foods, stock farm products and other processed foods.
TRADING
A global mindset, through and through
Over the years, we’ve built and maintained an information network that spans 70 countries across the globe. It’s one of our greatest strengths in the trading business because it provides us with the most up-to-date market information. Plus, we make it a point to visit actual procurement, processing, and sales sites so we can stay on top of real-time market changes. As a top global trader and supplier, we’ve made it our mission to use our unique global perspective for good: to protect marine resources with accountability, transparency, and professionalism.
The Storage and Distribution segment is engaged in the provision of frozen storage and distribution services for fish.
The Others segment is involved in the storage of feed, the marine transportation business, the leasing of real estate, the hotel business, the manufacture and sale of packaging machines, as well as the manufacture and sale of fur.
