Fjardalax is an affiliate of North Landing LLC, which is one of the largest importers, processors and distributors of fresh salmon and salmon products on the east coast of the United States. North Landing has vast experience of the domestic market for salmon, having carried operations for more than 20 years. North Landing is located in Clifton, New Jersey.
Fjardarlax is now licensed to operate in three different, deep and spacious fjords: Arnarfjordur, Talknafjordur and Patreksfjordur. This allows us to alternate generations between sites and fallow each of them for at least 12 months. By employing our alternate generation strategy the necessary cleaning of the sites is ensured and that in turn prevents any negative influence on the immediate environment and significantly diminishes the risk of contagion.
Further to diminish the burden on the sites and the environment, we put our smolt out at sea much bigger than traditional 50g-100g known in the industry. The abundance of geothermal water in our hatchery enables us to grow our smolt to a size of 300g plus, thus significantly reducing the growth time at sea by several months!
Fjardalax's generation farming model ensures the natural cleaning of the sites and at least 12 months of rest for each site thus preventing negative influences on the environment.
2016 - The merger of Arnarlax and Fjardalax under the terms of Arnarlax becomes the largest aquaculture company in Iceland. A united company will have a total of 21,000 tons of firewood in three fjords; Arnarfjordur, Tálknafjörður and Patreksfjordur.
