The INIDEP was created in 1977 by Law 21,673 on the basis of the former Institute of Marine Biology. It is a decentralized body under the Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca.
The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute ** (INIDEP) advises the Subsecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Nation (SSPyA), the Federal Fisheries Council (CFP) and the Argentine Foreign Ministry on the rational use of fishery resources with the objective of preserving the marine ecosystem for future generations.
The missions and functions are to formulate, execute and control research projects on prospecting, evaluation and development of fisheries, aquaculture technologies, fishing gear, technological processes and fisheries economics, in accordance with the guidelines and priorities established by the enforcement authority
