This report deals with pelagic species catch volumes for human consumption in waters of Norway. It also tackles aspects such as prices, markets, exports and imports of species hereinafter detailed in the index.

 

1. EUROPE

1.1 Norway

Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus)

From the beginning of the mackerel (Scomber scombrus) season in Norway (August 2018) until April 2019, 65,483 tonnes of mackerel greater than 600g were exported, for an FOB value of EUR 118,823,000, 239% more in volume and 289% more in value than exported in the same period of the previous season.

The average price for the 600+ was EUR 1,810/t, 15% higher than the last season.

Japan is the main destination of the product, importing 26,861 tons for EUR 48,267,000, almost 6 times more in volume and value than in the same period of the last season.

In the 2017/2018 season, the average FOB price paid by Japan was EUR 1,950/t, EUR 150 more than that of the current season.

China was the destination of 6,483 tonnes, at a price per ton of EUR 1,760.

Bellow 600g mackerel of the current season has also been exported, 153.988 tonnes for EUR 241.746.000, at an average FOB price of EUR 1.57, 30% more than in the previous season.

China was the main destination for frozen mackerel of less than 600g, importing 37,426 tonnes for EUR 59,412,000, 31% less in volume and 10% less in value than in the same period of the last season.

In the 2017/2018 harvest, the average FOB price paid by China was EUR 1,220 per tonne, EUR 370 more than that of the current season.

Japan was the destination of 31,521 tonnes, at a price per tonne of EUR 1,620.
