The average CIF price at Customs of Japanese imports of Alaskan Pollock surimi (Theragra chalcograma) in August 2018 was JPY 318/kg, down 6% in value on that of the previous month and up 17% on that of August 2017. The average price at Customs of itoyori surimi during the analysed month was JPY 348/kg, up 5% on that of the previous month and 6% on that of August 2017.

Markets
During this month, Japanese Customs showed that surimi imports totalled 12,090 tonnes, worth JPY 3,842 million.
These figures are up 101% in volume and 96% in value on those of the previous month and down 10% in volume and up 3% in value on those of August 2017.

In the eight months of the year, imports totalled 82,526 tonnes and JPY 26,949 million, down 8% min volume and up 9% in value on those of the same period in 2017.

In the period, imports of Alaskan pollock (Theragra chalcograma) surimi totalled 64,331 tonnes and JPY 21,187 million, down 14% in volume and up 5% in value on those of the same period in 2017. Imports of itoyori surimi reached 13,796 tonnes and JPY 4,602 million, up 9% in volume and 13% in value on those of the previous year.
Imports of other surimis (Pacific cod) were up 101%, 4.399 tonnes.
Alaskan pollock (Theragra chalcograma) surimi came almost all from the US and itoyori surimi from India (5,353 tonnes) and Thailand (4,578 tonnes).
