The average CIF price at Customs of Japanese imports of Alaskan Pollock surimi (Theragra chalcograma) in December 2018 was JPY 361/kg, similar value on that of the previous month and up 24% on that of December 2017. The average price at Customs of itoyori surimi during the analysed month was JPY 338/kg,similar on that of the previous month and up 1% on that of December 2017.

Markets
During this month, Japanese Customs showed that surimi imports totalled 8,358 tonnes, worth JPY 2,954 million.
These figures are down 33% in volume and 34% in value on those of the previous month and down 22% in volume and 8% in value on those of December 2017.

In 2018 imports reached 141,543 tonnes and JPY 47,358 million, down 9% in volume and up 6% in value in relation to 2017.

In the period, imports of Alaskan pollock (Theragra chalcograma) surimi totalled 114,968 tonnes and JPY 38,837 million, down 12% in volume and up 6% in value on those of the same period in 2017. Imports of itoyori surimi reached 20,365 tonnes and JPY 6.832 million, down 2% in volume and similar value on those of the previous year.
Imports of other surimis (Pacific cod) were up 32%, 6,210 tonnes.
Alaskan pollock (Theragra chalcograma) surimi came almost all from the US and itoyori surimi from Thailand (7,240 tonnes) and India (6,837 tonnes).
