New Formulas Feature Unique Plant Compounds to Boost Resilience and Growth

The innovation incorporates EDGEOS PhytoComplexes, exclusive ingredients developed by Nutreco Exploration from whole plants, aiming to give shrimp farmers a competitive edge in a volatile global market.

Skretting, a global leader in aquaculture nutrition, has announced the launch of the new versions of its flagship shrimp feeds: Lorica and Optiline. These products represent a significant advance, being the first in Skretting's shrimp portfolio to feature the groundbreaking EDGEOS PhytoComplexes.

These phytoactive complexes are a synergistic blend of bioactive compounds derived from whole plants and specific plant parts (such as leaves or stems). They were developed by Nutreco Exploration—the R&D team of parent company Nutreco—which specializes in plant research and the development of ingredients that, according to the company, have never been used before in animal feed.

Addressing Global Challenges

The launch comes at a critical time for the global shrimp industry, which is marked by market volatility, trade disruptions, and ongoing health challenges, where feed costs represent up to 70% of operational expenses.

• Lorica: Building on its reputation as a functional health feed, the new Lorica offers expanded functionality to strengthen shrimp resilience and overall health. This is crucial for protecting production against diseases and environmental stressors.

• Optiline: Designed to meet demanding growth targets, the new Optiline combines optimized nutrition with a unique blend of natural growth promoters. This results in a solution that provides measurable improvements in growth and feed efficiency, in addition to reducing reliance on marine ingredients and minimizing nutrient discharge, aligning with sustainability trends.

Dr. Charles McGurk, Skretting's R&D Director, stated: "The addition of EDGEOS PhytoComplexes allows us to support shrimp health and performance with greater precision than ever before. These ingredients support resilience and growth efficiency, offering farmers a more robust and sustainable solution."

Leiner Lache, Innovation Director for Shrimp at Skretting Aquaculture Innovation, concluded that the development was carried out in close collaboration with customers and partners: "Lorica and Optiline have been the best in their respective segments for over a decade. We are confident they will remain so, as these new releases were created to address today's specific market realities."

The new Lorica and Optiline shrimp feeds will initially be available in Ecuador at the end of 2025, with more markets to follow later. The innovation underscores the aquaculture industry's trend toward prioritizing animal resilience and sustainability through advanced nutrition.
