Ventisqueros continues negotiations to purchase salmon firm
(CHILE, 7/5/2013)
Productos del Mar Ventisqueros SA has ensured it is still interested in buying a part of Congelados Pacífico, aiming to strengthen its seafood segment.
"The purchase of Congelados Pacífico salmon division continues its normal course," the company reported through a press release.
In this regard, it was highlighted that the firm maintains "a normal relationship with its suppliers" and that it is not aware of "any joint legal action by a group of suppliers," the newspaper Estrategia informed.
The clarifying statement made by Ventisqueros arises after it was released that more than 10 small and medium suppliers would be considering resorting to court due to late payments, which have been delayed for about 180 days.
Sources familiar with the process pointed out that to exercise pressure and obtain their payments, the suppliers would be analysing to request Ventisqueros’ bankruptcy, although this is not a decision that has been taken so far.
Ventisqueros intends to purchase Congelados del Pacífico so as to strengthen its business division in the seafood area betting on further growth.
After the purchase, the company would have sufficient assets to reach a production of around 50,000 tonnes per year.
Ventisqueros’ idea is to operate both companies with a single administration, more oriented towards Atlantic salmon production. Production volumes would be evaluated according to sanitary and market conditions.
