(VIET NAM, 12/13/2017)
Vietnamese seafood export value is expected to grow by 18 per cent from 2016, to USD 8.3 billion this year, according to forecasts of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Statistics released by the association showed that in the first 11 months of the year, the country’s seafood export turnover was estimated at more than USD 7.6 billion, representing an increase of 18 per cent year-on-year, Viet Nam News reported.
In November alone, export turnover rose by 11 per cent from the previous month to reach USD 733 million.
As regards shrimp exports, in the January-November period their turnover increased by 22 per cent, to USD 3.5 billion, from the corresponding period last year.
The revenue from sales of catfish abroad experienced a 5 per cent year-on-year rise to USD 1.6 billion. The product’s turnover this year is expected to reach USD 1.8 billion, or a 4 per cent increase from last year.

The market has seen slow growth in recent months. VASEP predicts that seafood exports to the European Union (EU) are forecast to continue reducing this month due to the effects of the EU’s warning about illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
