Expanding the Craft of Salmon Smoking

  (NETHERLANDS, 5/31/2018)

Smoked salmon is a luscious delicacy that requires true skill and craftsmanship to produce. Nobody understands this better than H. van Wijnen, a family owned company that started fishing for salmon in Dutch rivers – and occasionally smoking their catch – as far back as 1700. Officially founded in 1864, the company has grown into one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious smokehouses, with around 100 employees and an annual turnover of 40 million euros.

H. van Wijnen offers a wide selection of traditionally smoked Norwegian salmon.

H. van Wijnen’s continuing goal is to create the best tasting, highest quality, environmentally friendly smoked fish. In order to stay competitive and enable future growth, the family-owned Dutch company has decided to take an investment from Nimbus, a Netherlands-based investment fund specializing in helping successful medium-sized firms grow further.

Available in retail packs from 50g to 500g sliced and in wholesale from 500g sliced to 1,5kg pre-sliced sides, ars, H. van Wijnen's products can be bought with a chilled or frozen shelf-life.

Over the last few years, H. van Wijnen managed to grow, doubling its sales between 2010 and 2015. However, results were negatively impacted by a variety of external factors in 2016 and 2017. Despite these challenges, the family business continued its primary focus on quality and craft. With an apparent need for investments in the factory, as well as commercial and operational support, H. van Wijnen decided to join forces with Nimbus. In doing so, Nimbus acquired a majority share of the company and supplemented Van Wijnen’s management team.

H. van Wijnen's Norwegian smoked salmon is lightly salted & gently smoked over a rich mélange of natural FSC wood sorts bringing out the pure flavors of this wonderful delicacy.

As a company dedicated to taste and tradition, H. van Wijnen will remain a differentiator in the market, with a strong focus on premium and innovative products. Investments will lead to more efficiency, allowing the company to be more competitive. Streamlined and commercially strong, H. van Wijnen is ready to bring the craft of quality salmon smoking into the future.
