Subject: TWELFTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON TILAPIA IN AQUACULTURE
Message:
The Twelfth International Symposium on Tilapia in Aquaculture will be held in
conjunction with the upcoming Asia Pacific Chapter of World Aquaculture Society
in Chennai, India, June 19-21, 2019. Register at:
https://www.was.org/meetings/default.aspx?code=APA2019 . The ISTA 12 will
include sessions on tilapia genetics and breeding, heath and disease, production
systems, nutrition, processing and marketing, and individual country reports. The
technical events will be accompanied by social events including a dinner and a
contest encouraging local eateries to compete with their best tilapia dishes to be
voted upon by the attendees. Press and social media will be used to widely
circulate information on the ISTA and tilapia farming and consumption in India and
abroad.
The ISTA meetings are convened roughly every three years at a different location
around the world. These symposia are organized by an international coordinating
committee and then hosted by a local committee. In every case there have been
multiple organizations represented on the international, local and trade show
committees. The speakers are from a global array and the attendees normally
represent over 40 countries. The peer reviewed proceedings are normally printed
locally but the distribution is global, with the books available on the World
aquaculture and Amazon websites. The list of ISTA locations:
1. Bethlehem, Israel
2. Bangkok, Thailand
3. Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire
4. Orlando, Florida, USA
5. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
6. Manila, Philippines
7. Veracruz, Mexico
8. Cairo, Egypt
9. Shanghai, China
10. Jerusalem, Israel (30th Anniversary of ISTA 1)
11. Surabaya, Indonesia
12. Chennai, India.
Every country that has hosted an ISTA has documented upsurges in tilapia
production and consumption in the following months and years. We fully expect
that India will experience a similar surge.
The papers submitted are reviewed by an international peer committee and
authors are requested to respond to editorial recommendations before final
acceptance or rejection for inclusion in the Proceedings. The Proceedings
are issued ISBN numbers and are available on a global basis. These papers are
widely cited in the scientific literature as can be noted in Google Scholar or other
archiving and search software.
