The National Animal Health Service of Costa Rica (SENASA) has explained, in relation to the presence of microalgae (red tide) on the coast of the Costa Rican Pacific Ocean, the phenomenon that is occurring at the moment is the result of high concentrations of microalgae that are not toxin producers that are stored in the body of bivalve molluscs (oysters, clams, mussels, pianguas, oysters, among others). And therefore no restrictions have been decreed for the commercialization of bivalve molluscs in the country.

A low-cost system to monitor the microbiome of seaweed farms and identify diseases before they spread is being developed by a PhD student at MIT.

Last year, Charlene Xia, from MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, proposed a project to predict and prevent the spread of diseases on seaweed farms.

Already popular in East Asian cuisines, seaweed holds tremendous potential as a sustainable food source for the world’s ever-growing population.

Statistics from the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources stated that the total production of yellowfin tuna in the Sultanate of Oman for the year 2020 amounted to 68,000 tonnes, with a total value of OMR 64 million, compared to 37,000 tonnes. in 2019 with a total value of around OMR 38 million.

This is due to the development of the marine fishing fleet in the Sultanate with a slowdown in fishing pressure in some neighboring countries.

The proposed takeover of Tasmanian salmon farmer Huon Aquaculture by Brazilian meat processing giant JBS has been given the green light by Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).

“FIRB has confirmed to JBS that the Commonwealth has no objection to JBS’ proposed acquisition of Huon,” the salmon farmer said in market announcement today.
