The Chilean Salmon Council, a guild made up of AquaChile, Australis, Cermaq, Mowi and Salmones Aysén, is urging caution over a Greenpeace-funded documentary that it says contains falsehoods.

It debunked several claims the documentary, titled: “No Here Here”, made against Chile’s farmed salmon industry.

Singapore company aims to close the gap on animal protein products

ImpacFat held a tasting session at a demonstration day hosted by Big Idea Ventures, a business accelerator for innovative companies working on plant-based and cell-based foods as well as ingredients and technologies to help build the alternative food ecosystem.

Morocco and Mauritania renew the fisheries and aquaculture agreement – The cooperation agreement between Morocco and Mauritania in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors has been renewed until 2024.

The Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed Sadiki, and the Mauritanian Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed Abidine Mayif, signed the agreement on September 30, on the sidelines of the first session of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Mixed Commission for Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Fishing boat owners are facing extortionate prices for electricity Killybegs Fishery Harbour Centre after the Department for Agriculture, Food and the Marine informed them that prices may rise by as much as 378%.

The news from the Department came on 30 November after the Office of Government Procurement (OPG) failed to renew the previous deal with Electric Ireland. The announcement was made by Roi Hawe, the Principal Officer at the Sea Fisheries Administration Division of DAFM on Wednesday 30 November, with the new charges coming into effect on Thursday 01 December 2022.

The Global Salmon Initiative (GSI) has today officially welcomed Salmones Aysén, a Chilean producer of coho salmon, as a new member of the leading sustainability initiative. With this addition, the GSI now has 14 salmon farming companies and eight supply chain member companies, spanning all the regions in which they operate. Together, member companies commit to adopting the initiative's core principles of increasing sustainability, transparency and cooperation to accelerate improvements in the industry's environmental performance at speed and scale.

The Consello de la Xunta has given the green light to the decree project, which modifies the organic structure of the Consellería do Mar. A modification with which it is intended to reinforce the impulse to increase demand, prices and income of the fishing, shellfishing, aquaculture and transformation professionals through the creation of a specific department focused on enhancing the value of seafood. This bet is materialized with the division of the current General Sub-directorate of Fisheries and Markets into two sub-directors: the Fisheries (in which the Fishing service and the Analysis and Records service are included) and the new one for the Valuation of the Products of the Sea, which includes the Market service.

This change, as highlighted by the Department of the Sea, "responds to the need to address the constant evolution of the economic importance of the maritime-fishing activity in Galicia

Semi-closed cage maker blames salmon tax proposal for job losses

Fiizk, which makes semi-closed containment systems for fish farming, has sent lay-off notices to more than 30 employees following the Norwegian government’s announcement that it plans a 40% “ground rent” tax on salmon producers.

After the ground rent tax was sent out for consultation in September this year, it has been difficult to enter into larger contracts with farmers in Norway.
