Official data on volume, prices and suppliers of import bluefin tuna

The average price at Customs of Japan of bluefin tuna or northern bluefin (Thunnus thynnus and Thunnus orientalis) and frozen southern bluefin (Thunnus maccoyii) (HS 030345010, HS 030345020 and 030346000) imported by Japan in June was JPY 1,645/kg, up 179% on that of May and down 38% on that of the June 2018. During the first six months, the average price was JPY 1,645/kg, down 16% on that of the same period last year.
Imports of bluefin tuna in June were scarce and 87% came from Korea, at an average price of JPY 565/kg.

Markets
During the month analysed, 121 tonnes of frozen bluefin were imported, worth almost JPY 199 million, up 66% in volume and 363% in value compared with the previous month.

In the first six months of the year imports reached 1,198 tonnes and JPY 1,809 million.

In the January-June period Korea sent 487 tonnes of frozen bluefin to Japan, worth JPY 719 million, followed by Taiwan (286 t) and Croatia (192 t).
