Import of frozen octopus is resuming its post-Covid-19 rhythm

In March 2021, imports of frozen octopus stood at 191 tonnes, 17% more than the 163 tonnes of the previous year, and the accumulated imports in March stood at 347 tonnes, 44% less than the 622 tonnes of the year previous.
The average import volume in March 2016 to 2021 was 411 tons, so the 191 tons in 2021 indicate 54% less.
They were imported, in the order of 70%, from a total of seven countries, including Mauritania, Indonesia, China, the Philippines and Venezuela, (243 tons) from Mauritania, 14% (47 tons) from Indonesia, 10% (35 tons) from China, and 5% (18 tons) from the Philippines.
The average unit import price per country is USD 8.49 / kg for Mauritania, with the highest price. China at USD 6.91 / kg and Indonesia at USD 3.94 / kg with the lowest.
In March 2021, frozen octopus imports amounted to USD 1.51 million, 43% more than USD 1.06 million the previous year, and the average import price in March was USD 7.92 / kg, 22% more than the USD 6.50 / kg of the previous year. .
