The undersecretary of Malvinas Affair Facundo Rodríguez confirmed the repudiation of the provincial government to the agreement between the national government and Great Britain to carry out joint fishing in the Falkland area, on the understanding that "they are harmful" for Argentina and for Tierra del Fuego, in matters of sovereignty.
The official considered however that "what the British ambassador (Mark Kent) says is striking, when he mentions that if you do not work together we will be left without fishing, referring to the British and the Argentines."

In this regard, he maintained - in statements to Radio del Pueblo - that "what the British ambassador should say is that if we do not work together they will be without fishing, not us; since those who are in a complicated situation, for their exit from the European Union and the impossibility that it will have to enter the products that illegally subtract from our sea ".
Rodriguez noted that "there arises the concern of the ambassador, trying to generate a bilateral issue when in reality it is only of them."

"What they are asking us is help in a situation of international difficulty and weakness that they have with their exit from Brexit and, unfortunately, what the national government does is to listen to that request for help and, as we are seeing from the agreement Foradori -Duncan 2016, is accessing everything that is being requested, "he lashed.
The Deputy Secretary of the Malvinas Question noted, however, that "that was what he defined in the Foradori-Duncan agreement: to treat all the issues that interest the United Kingdom and not to touch at all the issues that interest Argentina."
"The agreement is purely to recognize and facilitate the practical aspects, as they call it, around the islands; that is, communications, flights, fishing and hydrocarbons, "he said.
After confirming that these agreements are "as harmful as they were before," Rodriguez said that "from our Secretariat we have been raising notes and requests to the Argentine Foreign Ministry, maintaining our position of clear repudiation of this action, and requesting to be informed of what is the reason why the resumption of cooperation in fisheries matters is being carried out ".
