Peruvian fishing sector production decreased 7.95 per cent in June due to the lower anchovy catch for indirect human consumption (-15.13 per cent).
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), anchovy landings decreased from 668,465 tonnes in June 2017 to 567,344 tonnes in June 2018.
On the other hand, seafood fishing for direct human consumption increased by 4.87 per cent as a result of the greater capture of species destined to the preparation of frozen products (22.3 per cent) and smoked ones (9.7 per cent). However, the landing of species for canning (-7.1 per cent) and fresh consumption (-10.2 per cent) decreased.
With respect to the exports of the sector, in June the volume of exported fishery products slightly decreased, 0.1 per cent with respect to the sixth month of 2017 due to the lower shipment of fishmeal to China.
On the other hand, exports of fish oil increased by 5.3 per cent, with Denmark, Chile and China as the main destinations.
With respect to the export of non-traditional fishery products, the sector maintained a favourable result for the third consecutive month, explained by the largest sales of squid, giant squid and cuttlefish (Spain and China), whole frozen shrimp (Vietnam and Spain) and frozen fillets of hake (France and Russia).
