New Production Minister Rocio Barrios Alvarado said that the new rates of fishing rights, which will come into force this year, will be defined in an objective, technical and transparent manner.
After the meeting held on Friday with representatives of fishermen's associations to analyze the problems of the sector, Barrios said her office is still working on the issue.
"My willingness for dialogue will be permanent so I have called this first meeting to listen to their concerns and contributions on the subject in order to seek consensus," said the head of the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE).
She also said that her main concern is the sustainability of fisheries resources and that it is, therefore, important to maintain the payment of these rights, which are intended to facilitate their monitoring and control.
"The payment of fishing rights is not in dispute. It is something that must be maintained because with this we ensure the sustainability of our hydrobiological resources," she said.
The National Fishing Shipowner Association (ANAP) 26920, Unique New Boat Owner Union of Peru (SUPNEP), Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Javier Atkins as well as congressmen Freddy Sarmiento and Roberto Vieira participated in the meeting.
At the end of the meeting the unions thanked PRODUCE head's willingness to listen to them and solve the problems of the sector.
