Shrimp season will begin in mid-June

The entire shrimp fleet will be able to operate in argentinean waters, within the Permanent Hake Closure Zone, between June 14 and 15. That is the date that a priori authorities handle, as Pescare.com.ar could know.

The delay of approximately 20 days compared to last year is due to biological issues. During the campaign carried out in March, the scientists of Inidep detected a delay in the reproductive cycle of the species that forced to reprogram the regular calendar.

Naturally, the opening will depend on the result of the previous prospection, but the projections are optimistic. In principle, the Federal Fisheries Council (CFP) ordered yesterday that the commercial evaluation of the resource be made from June 6 with a limited number of boats.

Prospecting diagram

Two areas will be explored, one to the north and one to the south. The five-day work will be used to measure the presence of vulnerable shrimp to the tangonera network with the following geographical diagram:

• Area 1: between parallels 45 ° and 47 ° S, meridian 62 ° W and the limit of provincial jurisdiction;

• Area 2: between parallels 41 ° and 43 ° S, within the Closure Area.

"Each area will be subdivided into the number of sub-areas that can be complied with in order to survey it in its entirety and simultaneously (...) while the drawing for allocation of subareas will be carried out on May 23 at 4.30" , counselors pointed out.

The decision was approved by a majority, although the representative of Chubut, Adrián Awstin, expressed his disagreement regarding the methodology of prospecting, specifically with the innovation of exploring the area between 41 ° and 43 ° and not continuing with the traditional one from south to north from other years.

Landings

Meanwhile, shrimp landings totaled 54,585 tonnes until May 9, according to preliminary data from the Nation's Undersecretariat of Fisheries.

Of that volume, 3,882 tons arrived in Mar del Plata; while the bulk was concentrated in Rawson (39,219 t) by the activity of the coastal fleet. Meanwhile, Puerto Madryn absorbed 8,707 tons. The rest was divided between Deseado (1,129 t) and Caleta Paula (1,193 t) mainly.
