In an interview with Excelsior, the expert agreed that the current situation in the shrimp fishery in Mexico has to do with budget problems and the lack of training programs for the owners of the boats and the crew.
"As of 2018, the training ended, the training programs for producers, the part of awareness, evaluation of skills, professionalization, coupled with the decrease in budgets for inspection and surveillance, practically ran to fishing inspectors and Profepa It doesn't exist, so without the players' awareness and without a referee, everyone does what they want ”, he lamented.

Juan Manuel García Caudillo considered that there is a possibility that Mexico can regain the NOAA certification, before the month of September, when the shrimp season begins, as long as the actions that were abandoned are resumed and there is commitment on the part of all the sector, since there is a precedent of the embargo decreed in 2010, which was quickly lifted due to the good accounts delivered to the US.
Just a few days ago, Conapesca began with an awareness and training course on the correct construction, installation and efficient operation of TEDs for federal fisheries officials and elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar).
