The new proposal to apply a fishing rigth of 0.54 per cent of the FOB value per tonne of anchovy will allow for additional financial resources that will contribute, among others, to the research, monitoring, surveillance, control and planning of the development of fisheries with scientific support and technical, assures the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE).
"It is expected that more than PEN 112 million (USD 34 million) will be collected annually, of which 50 per cent goes to the fishing canon and the other 50 per cent (PEN 56 million) to PRODUCE, this will represent twice the amount registered in previous years and will improve funding for fisheries management," the ministry said.
The ministry noted that unlike the previous two publications, where the fishing rights varied if a certain volume of landings is exceeded, now a fixed rate is established for each tonne landed in order to provide clear signals and predictability to those administered.
The proposal states that after more than 10 years without any variation the value of this fising right will be modified.

"These changes will not affect the sustainability, competitiveness or profitability of the fishing business, since the proposed rate represents only 25 per cent of the income generated by the catches of the resource after covering all its fishing costs and the distribution of its profits" explained the PRODUCE.
The third pre-publication of the draft Supreme Decree modifying Articles 43 and 45 of the Regulation of the General Fisheries Law, made last week, will be available for a period of 10 working days on the website of the Ministry of Production to receive opinions, comments and / or suggestions of the citizens.
