An Argentine delegation visited Brazil with the purpose of progressing in the negotiations for the Argentine shrimp to be commercialized again in the Brazilian market.
This trip to the neighbouring country joins the actions and efforts being carried out by the Ministry of Agribusiness of the Nation with the fishing sector in addition to the various dialogues among several fronts and different government interlocutors among the Secretariat of Agroindustrial Markets, the Argentine Embassy in Brazil and its Brazilian counterparts.
The delegation was integrated by representatives of the Council of Argentine Fishing Companies (CEPA), Veraz, Newsan, Conarpesa, Iberconsa and Pesquera Deseado travelled to Brasilia to hold various meetings.
The group, accompanied by the secretary of Agri-industrialist Markets, Marisa Bircher, was received in Brasilia by the Argentine ambassador and the Minister of Agriculture of Brazil.
What Argentina is looking for is to overcome the judicial barrier imposed in 2013 by Brazil, which prohibits the entry of Argentine shrimp, converging with the Brazilian private sector in order to reopen the market for the Argentine product.
On the other hand, in addition to the support of the Brazilian private sector as a third party interested in this case, the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, Blairo Maggi, in a meeting with the Argentine delegation and Secretary of Defense for Agriculture Luis Eduardo Rangel was also willing to collaborate in this matter and to progress in other issues related to the bilateral relationship.
"The link with our productive sector is very important to be able to complement each other in favour of a better supply of the country and for joint exports to third markets," said Minister Maggi.
Brazil is a market with the capacity to absorb between 15,000 and 20,000 annual tonnes of shrimp, a significant volume for the Argentine fishing sector.
