Salmon producer and exporter Multiexport Foods has become the second South American company to join the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) as a funding partner.
GSSI is a global platform of seafood companies, NGOs, experts and governmental and intergovernmental organizations that works to achieve more sustainable seafood.
Multiexport Foods was founded in Chile in 1987 and today is one of the leading salmon producers in the world. It develops its activities in Chilean Patagonia, where it covers the entire value chain of salmon production, from reproduction to the customer, and exports its products to 30 international markets. Four of its salmon farms certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), a certification program recognized by GSSI.
“As a company, we have established sustainability and productive responsibility as an essential pillar of our business,” said Jason R. Paine, General Manager of Multiexport Foods INC U.S.A.
“Aligned with this purpose, joining the GSSI will allow us to increase efficiency in our certification framework in a visible and transparent way. Additionally, being part of this initiative aligned with our plan of producing a healthy protein source to feed a growing population, minimizing environmental impact and improving our social contribution”, he added.
