The global fishing company Pingtan Marine Enterprise Ltd., based in China, reported that it has sent two new large-scale jigger vessels to international waters of the Atlantic Ocean, where they will fish for squid.
The ships, which sailed on December 2, began operations on January 10 in the southwestern Atlantic region.
The president and CEO of the company, Xinrong Zhuo, expressed his enthusiasm with this project, and stressed that they hope to provide high quality squid to consumers throughout China through the Chinese online sales company JD.com, which has demonstrated be an efficient reinforcement for sales.
The company plans to send more fishing vessels to expand the variety of small products it offers, in order to expand the product portfolio it sells through JD.com.
"We look forward to new innovations in the digital retail model of seafood products, to improve the consumer shopping experience and promote growth by working closely with JD.com," the CEO said.
JD.com is the largest e-commerce company in China and also the largest Chinese retailer. It operates through an user-friendly digital platform and its own applications for cell phones, and has a huge electronic commerce infrastructure. Until September of last year it operated with seven fulfillment centers and 405 warehouses covering 2,830 counties and districts in China.
