The Calvo Group has launched an ambitious environmental project that will lead the company to value 100 percent of the waste it generates in their activity development.
The project, called "Calvo Residuo Cero" (Calvo Zero Waste), is part of the company's commitment to sustainability and with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. Framed in ODS number 12 (responsible production and consumption), it seeks to improve the management and treatment of waste, both in production plants and in offices.
The initiative has been launched in all the Group's facilities in Spain and will extend throughout 2018 to the rest of the regions.
In the production center of Calvo Group in Spain, located in Carballo (Galicia), the objective is to reach zero waste by 2025, which will mean the total recovery of non-hazardous waste generated by its industrial activity.
The company explains that the classification and efficient management of waste will prevent waste from reaching landfills and, in turn, can be put into value through conversion into raw material or energy through reuse, recovery or recycling treatments.
In the offices, Calvo Group, with the help of Ecoembes - an environmental organization that promotes sustainability and the care of the environment through recycling - has begun implementing measures aimed at achieving greater and better segregation of waste for its subsequent recycling. The measures include training actions to sensitize all employees about the importance of recycling.
The cooperation with Ecoembes extends the work that Calvo has been doing for years with this entity in everything that has to do with the recycling of packaging. The collaboration can be extended to the entire production process at the Carballo factory, in order to implement a waste characterization project to improve its segregation.
