The internal growth in the consumption of fish and aquaculture products in Mexico went from 8.9 to 12.5 kilograms per capita in just three years, which becomes a factor for the creation of new marketing spaces, such as wholesale distribution centers, wholesale and retail, as well as restaurants.
This, in turn, generates and strengthens the supply-demand cycle, assured the head of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA), Mario Aguilar Sánchez.
The commissioner made these statements when making a work tour of a national company facilites, located in Mexico City, dedicated to the processing and distribution of fish and seafood, whose production reaches 16 tonnes per month of seafood and aquaculture.
Aguilar Sánchez pointed out that this type of company is a benchmark for the development and generation of value-added products in the country's fishing and aquaculture activity, which drives the consumption of seafood and represents ever better income for workers in the sector.
The head of CONAPESCA observed the different phases of conservation, processing of fish and shellfish for its transformation and later distribution of the company that has installed capacity with a monthly displacement of 200 tonnes.
In this center, more than 250 species of fish and seafood come from different parts of Mexico and abroad, which are sold fresh, live and frozen, packed or canned, such as abalone, clams, tuna, crab, oyster, shrimp, octopus, eel, squid, trout, red snapper, grouper and sawfish.
CONAPESCA highlights that this company has a social commitment to Mexican fishermen, preferably acquiring fish and shellfish of national origin, not only for its high quality, but because that way it promotes a better regional development.
