Sernapesca delivers 15th and last surveillance report of the Chinese fishing fleet
The National Director (S), Jessica Fuentes Olmos, participated in the fifteenth monitoring and surveillance report carried out by the satellite control area of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA). The activity reported on the situation of Chinese fishing boats to date, as well as a summary of their operation since May last year.

Fernando Naranjo, deputy director of Fisheries of the organization, recalled that already in September part of the fleet of around 400 Chinese vessels that was kept in front of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Ecuador began to sail south. "Later, in October and November, the displacement process begins to return to the fishing grounds that these boats have in the southern Atlantic area."

Later, the head of the fisheries inspection department, Pablo Ortiz, took stock of the situation of the last week, indicating that "the last convoy of ships sailed through the Strait of Magellan and left through the eastern mouth of the Atlantic." The professional also recalled that satellite surveillance allows us to know the speed of navigation and therefore rule out fishing activities in Chilean territorial waters, since these vessels need to stop to fish.
"As of today, we are monitoring in coordination with the Navy the navigation of the last two ships that are entering through the western mouth of the Strait," added Ortiz, who explained that once they cross it to the Atlantic, there will no longer be ships of this fleet in our Exclusive Economic Zone.
DAILY SURVEILLANCE AND WEEKLY REPORTS
Finally, Fuentes explained that this concludes the weekly reports that, at the initiative of the former National Director and current Undersecretary, Alicia Gallardo, Sernapesca began to deliver on its website and social networks in early October. "I want to thank the community for the interest in following up on these reports, and also the institutions that provided us with information and images, such as the Chilean Navy and Global Fishing Watch."
The current Director stressed that "we will always be vigilant like Sernapesca of what happens in our waters and in the immediately adjacent area, so we will be reporting any news in due course."
