The National Fisheries Society (SNP) rejects the position of the Government of Chile regarding Peru's decision to establish the national jack mackerel catch limit at 138,000 tons, thus supporting the decision of the Peruvian Government in that regard.
In this regard, it said that the Regional Fisheries Management Organization (SPRFMO) only has jurisdiction to establish catch limits for jack mackerel on the high seas, outside the jurisdictional waters of the member countries, so that their decisions cannot compromise catch limits that Peru may establish in waters that are under its national jurisdiction.
It also recalled that unlike what happens in Chile, who voluntarily granted his express consent so that the decisions of the SPRFMO compromise the limits established by its internal jurisdiction, this did not happen with Peru, who never accepted that condition.
President of the National Fisheries Society, Cayetana Aljovín said that "We will support the government of Peru in all actions and in front of all the necessary instances so that the sovereignty of Peru in the sea of Grau is respected."
