The investment strengthens North American capacity for processing white fish and shrimp products, solidifying leadership in the prepared frozen seafood market.

LEBANON, INDIANA – Nissui Corporation, under the direction of its Representative Director, President & CEO Teru Tanaka, has announced the opening of a new production facility for its subsidiary Gorton's, Inc. in Lebanon, Indiana. The company, a leading manufacturer and marketer of prepared frozen seafood in North America, began operations in mid-September, with a completion ceremony held on September 30 (local time).

Since the 2000s, Nissui has been building a global supply chain for seafood through its "Global Links" initiative. Gorton's, which joined this network in 2001, has since expanded its business in North America, focusing primarily on white fish products, particularly Alaska pollock.

"Good Foods 2030" Vision and Market Leadership

As part of its long-term vision "Good Foods 2030," the Nissui Group has identified accelerating global expansion as a key challenge. In the overseas food business, the Group aims to become the "overwhelming global No. 1" in seafood-based fried products using white fish and shrimp.

Gorton's flagship plant is located in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Gorton's already holds the leading market share in the U.S. household prepared frozen seafood category, with its core lineup of fried Alaska pollock products. The company is also actively working to expand its shrimp-based product offerings. To achieve these growth objectives, increasing production capacity was essential, leading to the decision to establish this new plant, with groundbreaking in February 2024.

Strategic Collaboration and Enhanced Flexibility

Gorton's existing flagship plant in Gloucester, Massachusetts, will continue to serve as the primary production facility. The addition of the Lebanon plant will increase the company's overall production capacity, allowing Gorton's to capitalize on growing consumer demand.

The new facility will focus on producing value-added products, optimizing product lines, and enabling further supply chain flexibility for superior customer service. The plant was constructed in collaboration with Gorton's distribution partner, United States Cold Storage, Inc. (headquartered in Camden, New Jersey), which provided support in facilities such as refrigerated warehouses and in logistics.

Through this expansion of production capacity in North America, the Nissui Group aims to further grow its overseas food business and continue delivering innovative food solutions to consumers worldwide.
