The Welsh Seafood Cluster programme has organised a series of events to offer those working in the industry the chance to meet-up and learn from sector experts.
These events, called Dive In, are also intended for the seafood sector members to receive training in how best to use marketing and social media to reach their target audience and build their brand, Business News Wales informed.
The events see the start of series of programmes that will strengthen and upskill the Welsh seafood industry – and are a spin-off from the highly successful ‘Tuck In’ events delivered through the Fine Food Cluster and supported by the Food and Drink Board.
The Welsh Seafood Cluster programme is available to all seafood businesses operating in Wales and provides training and support for enterprises. It provides a platform for joint action to solve common industry problems, help them overcome barriers to growth, and ultimately add value to fish and shellfish caught or farmed on the Welsh shores.
The Cluster’s objective is to bring together a range of fishermen, processors, fishmongers, merchants and aquaculture businesses who have quality products and the ambition to grow alongside commercial, government and academic partners.
Funded through the Welsh Government’s Food & Drink Wales Business Development Programme, the Welsh Seafood Cluster currently engages with some 58 seafood businesses across Wales and links into Food and Drink Wales trade and consumer events.
Cluster activities include knowledge exchange; events, workshops and up-skilling; cooperative in commercial activities; sharing costs/resources; collaborating for profit; and understanding and entering new markets. There is also access to world-leading research; export insights, industry study visits; and trade opportunities in the UK and abroad.
“Clustering – working in collaboration to overcome barriers and issues has proven to work effectively,” says Seafood Cluster manager, Siân Davies.
“This good practice can be modelled to strengthen and develop the seafood industry in Wales,” Davies points out.
The North Wales Seafood Cluster networking event will be held in Criccieth on November 27. Guest speakers will be experts from the Llangefni-based Food Technology Centre, and from Seafish Wales Fishing Safety Department.
