Korean frozen atlantic salmon import volume increased by 116% in October

As of October 2022, a total of 976,967 tons of seafood were imported into Korea, with Atlantic salmon accounting for 0.29% with 2,460 tons.
In the case of 2021, the previous year, 1,934 tons were imported, which represents 0.23% of 849,769 tons.
Imports of frozen Atlantic salmon in October were 439 tonnes, up 116% from the previous year's 203 tonnes, and the cumulative volume for October was 2,460 tonnes, up 27% from the previous year's 1,937 tonnes.
The average import from October 2017 to 2022 was 361 tonnes, and the cumulative imports of frozen Atlantic salmon in October in the last six years were the highest at 6,350 tonnes in 2018 and the lowest at 1,934 tonnes in 2021.
1,824 tonnes, or 74.5%, of frozen Atlantic salmon were imported from Chile, a major exporter of frozen Atlantic salmon, 1,824 tonnes from Norway and 6 tonnes from China.
The unit import price per country was USD 8.23/kg for the product from Chile and USD 9.33/kg for the product from Norway.
In October 2022, imports of frozen Atlantic salmon were USD 3.93 million, up 146% from USD 1.59 million a year earlier, and the cumulative amount of imports was USD 20.95 million, 146% more than the USD 11.75 million of the same period of the previous year.
The average import unit price in October was USD 8.97/kg, showing a 13.9% increase in the unit price compared to USD 7.87/kg the previous year.
