PRODUCE increases maximum catch limit of anchovy for human consumption by 20%

Anchovy quota for direct human consumption increased from 150,000 to 180,000 tons

The Ministry of Production  (PRODUCE) modified the maximum total catch limit for direct human consumption (LMTC-CHD) of the anchovy resource (Engraulis ringens) for the year 2019 corresponding to the entire Peruvian coast.

Ministerial Resolution No. 525-2019-PRODUCE, published yesterday in the official newspaper El Peruano, states that the anchovy catch quota will be increased from 150,000 to 180,000 tons.

The modification was decided after considering the development of the daily catch in the last 15 days (509.7 tons), and estimating that the closing of the fishing season would be on December 6, 2019.

"It should be considered that according to the monthly development of the downloads of the anchovy resource for CHD, these present a high variability, the maximum monthly discharge being 19,936 tons (January 2019) and the minimum of 7,942 tons (October 2019)," the official document added.

It also explains that in order to estimate the landings that would be made as of December 31 of this year, based on the daily catches made in the last 15 days, a projection of discharges has been prepared to guarantee the continuity of the supply of anchovy and it is considered pertinent to provide the extension of the LMTC-CHD to 180,000 tons.
