The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) inaugurated a modern laboratory in the CITEacuícola of the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), which will ensure the quality and safety of hydrobiological products marketed by national exporters in the European Union, the United States and Asia.
"International markets are increasingly demanding in health, so it is important to have more equipment such as those in this laboratory, which allow to identify and quantify marine biotoxins, which can contaminate molluscs that are of frequent human consumption", said Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hector Soldi.
He also specified that the laboratory, which was financed by PRODUCE through the Technological Institute of Production (ITP) and the UPCH, demanded an investment of PEN 2.5 million (approximately USD 766,000), an amount that was allocated to its equipment and operation .
Soldi stressed that the Laboratory for Quality Control and Food Safety (LACCSA) is the only private laboratory specialized in the aquaculture and fishing sector in the country.
