The Spanish Fishing Confederation (CEPESCA) has signed an agreement with the certifying company Kiwa Spain, through its Chair of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, to ensure the quality of the different processes and standards of its associated companies.
CEPESCA joint 37 associations, 800 fishing companies, 861 fishing vessels, 10,000 crew members and 50% of the total catch of Spain
With this agreement, the different fleets integrated in CEPESCA can have access to Kiwa's training and inspection/certification services to verify compliance with the standards under which they want to be certified (UNE, ISO, MSC, Friend of the Sea standards, quality standards, etc.), or guarantee the custody chain in the different links of the commercial chain.

The agreement was signed during the celebration of Eurofishing, a contest that takes place in Bilbao until February 14 within the framework of World Maritime Week, by the president of Cepesca, Amador Suárez, and the general director of Kiwa Spain, Juan Cardona.
Kiwa has an important international background in this type of services, especially in the Nordic countries fishing sector, and has extensive experience in the creation and certification of different quality standards.
With this agreement, Kiwa Spain strengthens its position in a strategic sector for the company, such as fisheries, complementing the activities carried out within the agri-food market where the company, with headquarters in Valencia, is a national reference.
"Having the international experience of a company like Kiwa and the knowledge and training of the Kiwa-UPV Chair, will allow us to cover an area that is gaining weight in Spain and that can generate significant added value in Spanish fishing companies, betting for quality certifications that ensure that activities are carried out in a responsible and sustainable way from the boat to the final consumer," said Amador Suárez.
For his part, Juan Cardona stressed that with this agreement, Kiwa Spain "manages to increase its international baggage in the fishing sector." In his opinion, the global solvency of the company he heads "will bring value to the members of Cepesca, not only from the technical point of view but also from a vanguardist approach in aspects of market need".
