The Argentine Naval Prefecture (PNA), as the country's maritime authority, is deploying a wide-ranging operation to assist the Chinese flagged Zhongyuanyu 11 jigger vessel and the Spanish trawler fishing vessel Pesca Vaqueiro, which for reasons under investigation, collided at 9 nautical miles (about 16 kilometers) outside the exclusive economic zone of Argentina.
The map area encompasses the San Jorge Gulf and its projection outwards of 200 miles ►
The accident occurred on the same latitude as Comodoro Rivadavia city, in the province of Chubut.

On Friday morning, the Chinese fishing vessel activated an alarm signal with a localization and rescue beacon, received by the Argentine Navy, transferring the operation's lead to the Prefecture.

Immediately, through the latest generation PRO Coast Guard System, the Force located the emergency zone and ordered the displacement to the Coast Guard GC-24 Mantilla, who was patrolling the EEZ, and an airplane that, in this moment, is flying over the area in coordination with the coastguard.

According to first information, the Chinese vessel sank and its crew would have been rescued by another fishing vessel of the same flag.
Official sources clarified that, as the accident occurred outside Argentine waters, and there are no national vessels involved, "the justice is not competent to act, except that the vessel that did not sink enters an Argentine port, which is something difficult, since these vessels use normally Montevideo city as an operation port."
