Argentina achieves Indian market opening for fishmeal

The governments of Argentina and India signed several agreements in New Delhi, in the framework of the State Visit that President Mauricio Macri made to that country.
Among other points, the two countries made progress in terms of phytosanitary regulations to expand and diversify bilateral trade, and it was agreed to open the Indian market for Argentine fishmeal, along with other products.
The Argentine President and the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, S.E. Shri Narendra Modi, expressed their satisfaction regarding the mutually beneficial cooperation and collaboration between both countries in the political, economic, technical, energy, mining, information technology, scientific and cultural fields.
Both parties indicated that new areas of cooperation were identified in areas of mutual interest and modalities were designed to continue strengthening and expanding the bilateral relationship between both countries. They highlighted the year-long activities planned by both parties in order to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
In the area of agro-industrial cooperation, a work plan was established on cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Production and Labor of the Argentine Republic, within the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2010. The cooperation scheme will allow sharing knowledge in the agro-industrial sector, in which Argentina stands out for its expertise. Among the areas of interest, the following stand out: biotechnology, genetic improvement, cloning, fish monitoring systems and wine production.

With respect to agricultural research, a work plan was agreed for the period 2019-21 between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research of India and the Secretary of State for Agribusiness of the Ministry of Production and Labor of the Argentine Republic, within the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2006. This agreement will allow advances in scientific research, technology and productive innovation in particular, the transfer of technology for the development and production in India of a vaccine against bovine sadness syndrome; development of high-yield rice varieties with diseases, lodging and resistance to non-GMO herbicides, aquaculture, germplasm exchange, fish mariculture, use of agro-industrial by-products and development of technological packages for commercialization, among other activities.
Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the successful conclusion of sanitary and phytosanitary approvals for the export of lemons, chia seeds, egg products and fresh eggs, fishmeal and bone meal from Argentina to India, and guar and millet from India to Argentina.
