The Spain and Morocco fisheries ministers inaugurated a meeting of the Joint Spanish-Moroccan Commission of fisheries professionals on Thursday in Agadir, where the spirit of understanding and cooperation between the two countries was highlighted.
This Commission, created eight years ago, is made up of the Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Federation of Morocco, the Spanish Fishing Confederation (CEPESCA) and the Association of Perishable Products Importers of the Port of Algeciras. Some of its objectives are to promote business relations in the fishing sector, propose measures to the Administrations to improve the flow of trade and defend common fishing interests.
In his speech, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, Luis Planas, valued the Joint Committee role in the renewal of the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement, which is in the final stages of its processing. He also expressed his hope that the final procedures will not suffer delays, so that the agreement can be fully operational soon.
The Joint Committee meeting took place within the framework of the 5th edition of the Salón Náutico Halieutis, dedicated to sea fishing, aquaculture and the fisheries products valorization. The Halieutis Salon aims to highlight Morocco's fisheries potential, making known the developments and perspectives of evolution that are being carried out through the Halieutis Strategy.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food participates in the V Edition of the Salon Halieutis with an institutional stand that serves for the presentation of the Intermares School Ship for Fisheries Cooperation, aimed at training and cooperation in the nautical and fisheries.
The ship, which will remain moored in the port of Agadir during the days of the Halieutis Hall, was visited yesterday by Planas and the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch.
Intermares was built by the Ministry in 2009, with the aim of serving in training and fishing training projects in Ibero-America and Africa, as well as to contribute to the development of other countries with which Spain maintains agreements.
