An extended shadow is projected on the squid season. Eighty days after the activity of the fishing fleet began in the south of the 44th parallel, the catches reach their lowest level.
The Chamber of Jigging Vessels Owners in Argentina (CAPA) Juan Redini pointed out that the vessels are obtaining between zero and two tons a day of illex, against the 34.6 tonnes/ day that on average marked the first fishing weeks.
"The boats keep exploring the area, but the catches are very low," the leader told Pescare.com.ar. Faced with this scenario, shipowners are waiting for the anticipated opening of the northern area, which could be discussed this week in the Council.

Days ago, CAPA presented a note to the agency requesting that the green light must be advanced to operate above 44° from the changes that the fishery is showing. Among the statements also appears INIDEP approval in similar situations.
"The idea is that this week the Federal Fisheries Council approves our request," said Redini. Among the shipowners the idea prevails that there was a shift of the resource towards the north after a period of bad weather.

Meanwhile, data from the Nation's Undersecretariat of Fisheries indicate that until March 21, 77,007 tonnes of squid were unloaded. In terms of volume and evolution of work, a harvest similar to that last year is taking place.
The 62 jiggers participating this season obtained 68,769.4 tonnes; while in official statistics, 7,766.3 tonnes are assigned to freezer trawling vessels and 456.7 fresh fish freezer vessels.

Regarding the distribution by the main ports, Deseado appears leading with 33,699.2 tonnes, followed by Mar del Plata, which rebounds as the resource migrates to the north, with 21,428.8 tonnes. Further back, Puerto Madryn follows with 16,806.2 tonnes.
