The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (SUBPESCA) held two consecutive meetings on Monday with representatives of the industrial fishing sector to address the implementation of Act 20.625 on discarding hydrobiological species.
According to this act, all catches must remain in the vessels and not be returned to the sea (discard) in order to safeguard the sustainability of resources and marine life in general.
To monitor compliance with these provisions, which have a series of special features, it will be mandatory, for example, to install video cameras on board the vessels.
The white spot is dead fish.

In the first stage, information will be given, as it was done in the meeting on Monday. In that context, there will be a new meeting, on May 27.
The second phase, which is scheduled to begin on June 3, considers a white gear, and fishing companies will beable to adapt to compliance with the provisions on discarding.
The third stage, from September 1, will correspond to the full validity of the rules and the beginning of the inspection tasks by SERNAPESCA.
On Monday, undersecretary Alicia Gallardo answered a series of questions formulated by the representatives of the industrial sector.
Previously, different specialists from SUBPESCA and the body led by Gallardo presented multiple aspects of Act 20.625.
