Frozen monkfish imports increased 119% year-on-year

In February 2021, frozen monkfish imports amounted to 5,505 tons, up 119 % from 2,509 tons a year earlier, while cumulative imports amounted to 9,570 tons a year earlier, up 39 % from 6,862 tons a year earlier.
Over the past six years from 2016 to 2021, the average February import was 3,604 tons, up 53% from 5,505 tons in February this year.
China, the United States, Brazil and South Africa were the main exporters of frozen monkfish to Korea.
At the end of February, China accounted for 99% of the total volume, followed by 9,444 tonnes from China, 67 tonnes from the United States, 38 tonnes from Brazil and 21 tonnes from South Africa.
Brazil had the highest import price of USD 4.29 / kg, South Africa of USD 2.95 / kg and China had the lowest price of USD 1.25 / kg.
In February 2021, imports of frozen monkfish amounted to USD 7.24 million, 65% more than USD 4.38 million, and the average unit price in February was USD 1.32 / kg, 24% less than USD 1.74 / kg from the previous year.
