Shrimp exports generated USD 21 million in revenue in the first two months of this year, representing an increase of 5.7 per cent over the same period of 2017.
This growth was due to the greater volume exported: 2,933 tonnes were shipped, compared to 2,549 tonnes in the first two months of last year, that is to say, 15 per cent more, reported the Services and Capture Industries Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).
The shrimp was the most important aquaculture species, with a 66.9 per cent share of the total value of exports of the products of this sector. It outperformed the trout (USD 5.78 million), scallops (USD 4.21 million), tilapia (USD 389,578) and paiche (USD 40,229).
The most demanded products were frozen shelled shrimp (USD 9.75 million), frozen whole shrimp (USD 7.84 million) and frozen shellless shrimp (USD 3.45 million).
The most important market was the United States, with purchases for USD 7.76 million, while Spain, Vietnam and France imported Peruvian shrimp for USD 4.29 million, USD 2.34 million and USD 2.13 million, respectively.
Other important destination markets were Japan, Russia, Panama, Portugal, United Arab Emirates, South Korea and Italy.
The company that most shipped this product is Marinazul SA, with sales of almost USD 12 million. In second place was La Fragata S.A., with USD 2.30 million.
