The Argentine Association of Pilot Captains and Fishing Patterns (AACPyPP) warns that it could be arranged for the shrimp fishing fleet to suspend its operations.
The association informs that, due to the uncertainty existing in the deep sea fresh fish fleet, motivated by the lack of a reference price for shrimp production, it has been decided to alert captains and fishing pilots operating in said fleet, and that the stoppage of the fresh shrimp fleet could be arranged.
This measure would be maintained "until the Argentine Chamber of Shipowners of Deep Sea Fishing Ships (CAABPA) agrees to make the necessary efforts in order to find an agreement to the problems raised."
The Board of Directors of the AACPyPP explains that it received a request signed by more than 30 captains and officers in activity, who work in the fresh shrimp fleet, in which they raise the need to have a reference price for shrimp fishing under the fresh fish mode, performed by deep sea fishing vessels.
This situation led to an attempt to establish a negotiating table with the CAABPA in order to reach an agreement, without having received any response so far, according to the AACPyPP.
The association emphasizes that with its actions, the shipowners' chamber fails to comply with the Collective Labour Agreement 638/11 of which it is a signatory. This agreement provides that in the case of target species that do not have an agreed price, the parties must proceed to agree on this value, "which until now has not happened."
