Strategic Expansion in ASEAN and Metropolitan Storage Resilience Drive Financial Growth

Nichirei announced its consolidated financial results on May 12, 2026, for the fiscal year ending March 2026, revealing a robust performance driven by its logistics division. The company reported net sales of $4.58 billion (approximately 716.144 billion yen), marking a 2.0% increase from the previous year. Operating profit rose by 1.8% to $249.6 million, while net profit saw a significant double-digit jump of 10.5% to reach $174.9 million.

While the company's food business faced headwinds and a subsequent dip in profits due to rising operational costs, the cold chain logistics sector acted as the primary engine for growth. This division successfully captured heightened demand for specialized storage and transportation across both Japanese and international markets.

Domestic Dominance and Innovative Logistics Solutions

The cold chain logistics segment saw sales climb 8.2% to $1.93 billion, with operating profit soaring by 18.0% to $118.9 million. Within Japan, the demand for frozen food storage remained exceptionally strong, particularly throughout major metropolitan areas. This surge bolstered revenue across several sectors:

  • Storage and Transportation

  • Retail Logistics

  • 3PL (Third-Party Logistics)

A key contributor to this domestic success was the expansion of SULS, a specialized service utilizing trailers, and the retail-focused NL+LiNk business. Consequently, domestic cold chain operating profits grew by an impressive 24.7%, totaling $114.9 million.

International Challenges and ASEAN Opportunities

On the global stage, Nichirei expanded its footprint through the strategic acquisition of a UK forwarding company and synergistic collaborations with existing partners. These moves helped overseas sales rise 11.3% to $592.4 million. However, international operating profit experienced a 9.7% decline to $19.5 million. This dip was attributed to:

  1. Operational delays at a new warehouse facility in Poland.

  2. One-time acquisition costs associated with a new Malaysian subsidiary.

Future Outlook and Network Acceleration

Looking ahead, Nichirei intends to further integrate its storage and transportation operations to create a seamless global network. The company is particularly focused on reaping the rewards of its recent entries into the ASEAN market.

Nichirei Logistics Group has confirmed plans to transition two Indonesian cold chain logistics companies into consolidated subsidiaries. This move is expected to significantly accelerate the construction of a comprehensive logistics infrastructure across the ASEAN region, ensuring the company remains a dominant player in the global temperature-controlled supply chain.

  • 3PL(サードパーティ・ロジスティクス)

  • 3PL(第三方物流)
