The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) authorized the start of the second fishing season for anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and longnose anchovy (Anchoa nasus) in southern zone of Peru, in the marine area between 16º00'LS and the extreme south, for the July - December period this year.
According to Ministerial Resolution No. 306-2017-PRODUCE, published on Wednesday, June 28 in the official newspaper El Peruano, this anchovy fishing period will be in effect from 00:00 hours on the fourth working day counted from the day following the publication of such resolution
The fishing season completion date, once the maximum allowable catch limit (LMTCP) is reached, is December 31 this year.
This date may be extended or reduced in function to environmental biological conditions or reduced according to biological environmental conditions, following the report from the Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE).
The maximum allowable catch limit for the southern zone of the anchovy and longnose anchovy for indirect human consumption was set at 515,000 tonnes.
Only fishing vessels registered and authorized to develop capture activities during the current fishing season may operate, in compliance with the Maximum Capture Limit per vessel in the southern zone.
In the event that the catches of the anchovy fleet reach the LMTCP in the southern zones set for this season, the capture activities will be suspended; "without prejudice to establishing the administrative and/or criminal responsibility of the owners of those vessels that would have made catches above the maximum catch limit per vessel in the southern zone," the resolution details.
