Opening of shrimp fishery allowed in national waters

The Federal Fisheries Council (CFP) has authorized the opening of the shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri) fishery in national waters, in three subareas where a recent survey indicated the highest shrimp yield with the lowest incidence of hake (Merluccius hubbsi).

One of the subzones is north of Puerto Madryn and the other two, from Camarones southwards, in the province of Chubut.

The measure, effective from the hour 0:00 on Thursday, June 13, was adopted on the basis of the results of the INIDEP report on a prospecting carried out in national waters, within the banned area of ​​ juvenile hake.

The CFP clarifies that in one of the three sub-areas (2.5), only vessels that use selectivity devices admitted by the CFP Resolution No. 7/2010 and those approved in their framework may carry out fishing operations

The members of the Council also agreed that "based on the information provided by on-board observers, when a hake/shrimp ratio greater than 0.15 is verified in any sub-area, the use of selectivity devices will be required, under the terms of article 5 ° of the Shrimp Fishery Management Measures approved by the CFP Resolution N° 7/18, and when this relation reaches 0.30,  the closing of the same area will be ordered."

In addition, the CFP unanimously decided to request the INIDEP to prepare a plan to carry out a survey in the following areas:

• between parallels 43 ° and 44 ° South and meridians 60 ° and 62 ° West;
• between parallels 44 ° and 45 ° South and meridians 61 ° 30 '° and 63 ° West.

Once the INIDEP prospecting plan has been received, the Council will empower the Enforcement Authority to proceed to implement it with the ships and on-board observers that are available.
