Marked increase in the average price of salted herring roe

The average price of salted herring roe imports (HS 030520010) was JPY 963/kg in April, up 71 percent on that of March and down 2 percent on that of April 2018. During the first four months, the price averaged JPY 886/kg, down 5 percent on that of the same period in the previous year.

Imports of salted of herring roe (or dried), HS 030520010, reached 78 tonnes in the month analysed, worth JPY 75 million CIF at Japanese Customs, up 48 percent in volume and 153 percent in value compared to those imported in March, and down 52 percent in volume and 53 percent in value compared to April 2018.

In the first four months of the year, imports totalled 296 tonnes and JPY 268 million, down 41 percent in volume and 54 percent in value compared to the same period in 2018.
Russia was the main supplier of herring roe of HS 030520010 during this period, with 123 tonnes and JPY 114 million.
