Balfegó, a world leader in the capture and marketing of bluefin tuna, plans to invest 16 million euros in the construction and commissioning of its new facilities, after the fire at its processing plant, which occurred one year ago. Balfegó will take advantage of this reconstruction of its facilities to create the necessary infrastructures with which to address the new stage that opens the way for the recovery plan of bluefin tuna to a management plan, as established by ICCAT at its last extraordinary meeting last November.
According to Juan Serrano, CEO of Balfegó, "after the years of effort that has meant for us to assume and push the recovery of this species, we enter a new stage in which we are going to renew our historic commitment to technology, traceability and Transparency as pillars of our activity in the coming years. We believe that these concepts -says Serrano-, are synonymous with the future in the fishing sector and even more so in the case of bluefin tuna, where quality and excellence are essential for success ".

Balfegó has already begun work on the new building that will store the bait with which it feeds the tunas of its pools and plans to have it finalized next fall. The new facility will have an area of 4,785 m2 and a storage capacity of 8,500 tons. For its part, the construction of a second building that will be the company's headquarters and the processing of bluefin tuna will also begin construction this fall and is expected to be completed before the end of 2020.

Balfegó wants to develop, within its new facilities, the most advanced technology and machinery for the handling of its tuna to further optimize its level of service, as well as the quality of its product. Likewise, and within the new project of the company, it continues to have a very important weight to spread its focus and ranching of bluefin tuna, so the company will open the possibility of knowing in situ all its processes, both to customers and school groups.
