In 2022, France moves up two places to 19th place among world exporters for fishery and aquaculture products, maintaining a market share of 1.5% in value.

Exports (2,117 million euros - USD 2,260.86 M) increase by 10% compared to 2021; This progress is driven by the 14% increase in exports to the European Union, while those destined for third countries experienced a 5% decrease. This increase masks lower volume exports, which are falling by 3% compared to 2021.

The share of exports to the EU increased again this year by 3 points, from 79% to 82%. In detail, export volumes to Spain increased by 16% and 23% in value, allowing this country to become France's main client, ahead of Italy, which experienced a slight decrease in volumes, but an increase of 9% in value due to significant inflation in 2022. The ranking of the other destination countries is similar to that of 2021: Belgium 3rd and Germany 4th with a slight drop in value of 2% but stronger in volume - 9 % and - 18%; followed by the Netherlands in 5th place with an increase in value (+34%) and volumes (+27%). It should be noted that in these last 3 countries, the evolution of the participation of The French market compared to its main competitor, the Netherlands or Sweden, deteriorated due to comparison with 2021.

The two main third countries for French exports of fishery and aquaculture products remain Switzerland and the United Kingdom, as in 2021. If in 2021 in these two destinations the first competitor was the Netherlands, it retains its place only for the Switzerland and loses it to Denmark due to the fate of the United Kingdom.

Salmon continues to be the main exported product. Poland went from eighth place to second destination between 2020 and 2021, it retains it in 2022, but the gap is narrowing with the first EU destination country, Belgium. In fact, shipments to Belgium fell 22% in value. THE volumes have also been reduced to Italy, Germany and Switzerland, with a stable value due to inflation in 2022, which is marking the moment of spectacular increases in volumes experienced by exports of this species in 2021.

Imports

Oysters remain in second place in the ranking. Exports increased to Italy (1st country of destination), where the values take almost 90% (accompanied by an increase in volumes). Spain, previously the 5th destination country, is in 2022 in 2nd position in the ranking (export values have doubled). China and the Netherlands then drop to 3rd and 4th position (respectively -10% and +47% in value in 2022).

Exports

The exports of prawns and prawns have increased compared to the exports of scallops, these fall to 5th place among the most exported products.

Prawns and shrimps ranked 3rd and 4th, respectively. The main destination countries for shrimp are Germany and Belgium; significant increases are observed towards Italy and the United Kingdom. Shrimp was exported more in 2022 than in 2021 with an increase in value of +62% to Spain and +53% to Italy. The scallop owes its decline in the ranking of exported products to a drop in demand towards EU countries and significantly in the two main customers, Spain and Italy.
