Embarked Workers require the inapplicability due to unconstitutionality of the giant squid Law

The Embarked Workers of the Industrial Fishing Sector represented by four unions based in Talcahuano presented a request before the Constitutional Court for the inapplicability due to unconstitutionality presented by Pesquera Landes to the "Jibia Law" (giant squid), which imposes the jig as a form of capture of cuttlefish. , leaving out of activity the industrial buildings that used medium water drag.

The Court is precisely looking at Pesquera Landes' request.

The recalling unions are Union Interempresas of Official Workers of Special and Regional Ships MMN; Union Interempresas Crewmen of Drag, Unloaders, Nets and Caregivers of Special Ships of the Province of Concepción; Union Interempresas of Workers Crews of Sardinian Ships of the Province of Concepción and Union Interempresas of Official Workers of Machine of the National Merchant Marine and Fishing Ships.

The trade unionists presented a report on working conditions, carried out at the International Labor Conference (2004), which shows issues related to the damage caused by the norm against employment and development in the country.

They also represent the negative impacts of the rule on other jobs in the sector, as well as the effects on the health of workers of using the equipment indicated by the 2019 legal amendment.
