Peru's fishing sector achieved significant growth in the first half of this year, of 82.85 per cent, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Information Technology (INEI), which positively impacted the Peruvian economy.
The INEI report indicates that in June, fishing increased 52.02 per cent, contributing to the advance of the Peruvian GDP, which in that month was 3.64 per cent, higher than expected by the market. Thus, fishing contributed 0.21 points to the growth of the sixth month of the year, to which its contribution in primary manufacturing must be added, stressed the National Fisheries Society (SNP).
The development of the first fishing season was key to the contribution of the fishing sector to the GDP: sea fishing grew by 52.02 per cent in June, and the catch of species for marine ingredients was larger by 81.10 per cent due to anchovy landing.
Meanwhile, species for direct human consumption grew 20.11 per cent in that month thanks to the frozen line such as giant squid, shrimp, tuna, octopus, hake, shark, dolphinfish, fan shell, silver smelt, horse mackerel, sea urchin and other fish.
